From the Atlas to the Sahara
Travel from Marrakech through the High Atlas and southern Morocco to the Erg Chebbi dunes near Merzouga. This private itinerary combines mountain roads, historic villages and a night in the desert. Expect substantial driving, particularly on the final day.
Your suggested itinerary
- Day 1 — Marrakech → Aït Ben Haddou → Dades Valley. Cross the High Atlas, stop to explore Aït Ben Haddou and continue towards your overnight stay in the Dades area.
- Day 2 — Dades → Todra Gorge → Merzouga. Explore the gorge before continuing to the dunes. Request a sunset camel ride or an alternative camp transfer, followed by a desert-camp overnight.
- Day 3 — Merzouga → Marrakech. Enjoy an early desert morning before the long return drive with breaks. Plan an evening arrival and avoid booking a flight that night.

3-Day Private Merzouga Desert Tour from Marrakech
A three-day Marrakech-to-Merzouga desert journey crosses the High Atlas and kasbah country before reaching the dunes at Erg Chebbi. This is a substantial road trip, not a short drive from Marrakech. A proposed itinerary normally uses the first day to reach the Dadès area, the second to continue through the Todra region to Merzouga, and the third for the return journey. Your exact route and overnight stops are finalized before confirmation.
If you want to ride a camel, spend a night in a desert camp or arrive in time for sunset, tell us when requesting your quote. Camp standards vary widely, including private bathrooms, heating, meal options and the location relative to the dunes. A private driver, local guide, camp stay and specialist dune transport are separate inclusions unless explicitly packaged in writing.
Plan for long drives, varying temperatures and limited accessibility on sand. Bring layers, water, sun protection and a compact overnight bag. For families or travelers who prefer shorter driving days, ask about a four- or five-day Sahara route instead of squeezing too much into three days.
Useful questions before you book
How many nights does a three-day Merzouga tour include?
A three-day itinerary typically involves two nights, but the confirmed booking must state the exact accommodation and meal arrangements.
Is the Sahara camp and camel ride included?
Only when listed in your written quotation. Ask us to specify camp category, sleeping arrangements and camel or 4×4 options.
Can we finish this tour in Fes instead of Marrakech?
A one-way Marrakech-to-Fes route can be arranged as a separate itinerary; request the appropriate trip and confirm luggage arrangements.
